Buglio lived with chronic back pain and sciatica for over a decade. He went through the familiar cycle: doctors, imaging, treatments, temporary relief, disappointment, repeat. Eventually, he discovered Dr. Sarno's work and the broader world of mind-body pain science. He recovered completely. And that recovery, now over 14 years ago, became the foundation for everything he does today.

Change the perception of danger, and the pain resolves.
His recovery framework moves through five stages:
1. Knowledge. Understand how neuroplastic pain works. Learn that your brain can generate real pain without structural damage. Study the evidence showing that imaging findings like disc bulges appear in millions of pain-free people (Brinjikji et al., AJNR, 2015↗).
2. Acceptance. Accept the neuroplastic diagnosis for your pain. This isn't just intellectual agreement. It's a deep shift from "something is wrong with my body" to "my brain learned this pain pattern."
3. Mindset shift. Move from fear to safety. When pain appears, instead of panicking or bracing, respond with calm. Your body is safe. The pain is a false alarm. This is where daily practice matters most.
4. Indifference. This is Buglio's most distinctive contribution. Not fighting the pain. Not analyzing it. Not trying to make it go away. Just... not caring about it. Genuine indifference starves the pain cycle of the attention and emotional reaction it feeds on. This is the hardest step and the most powerful.
5. Re-engagement. Get back to living. Do the things you've been avoiding. Stop organizing your life around pain. The more you live as if pain doesn't define you, the less your brain invests in maintaining it.
A significant point of distinction: Buglio explicitly states that deep excavation of past trauma is not required for recovery. This positions his approach differently from Nicole Sachs' emotional processing focus or Schubiner's EAET. Buglio's view is that while past experiences may have created conditions for pain, the path forward is through present-moment mindset work, not historical emotional excavation.
